“I can’t have mold, my house is new.”

As I watched a new home be built in my area of town I have my doubts…

It was a very wet spring, and as the frame of the house went up, I wondered if the stack of wood sitting in the rain had gotten moldy, and if it had, had they discarded that wood or used it.

The next time I passed the house, I noticed the frame was now covered, and hoped the wood was dry before they added this layer, and thought about the inside wood that was still exposed to the elements. It didn’t take long before the windows were installed.

Again I thought about the wet interior wood and wondered if it was growing mold. After watching this house for 6 months, the front door and garage door were still not installed. We have had a lot of rain, and some serious storms with a lot of wind, strong enough to blow into this house.

As insulation is being installed, and drywall is being put up, did the builder make sure that the interior frame of the house was dry? Did they make sure there was no mold before the frame was covered? Did they thoroughly inspect the attic and crawl space for mold? There are many areas mold can hide in new construction and MANY places mold can occur over time in existing construction.
